Sofokus involved in renewing the Waltti service platform

TVV lippu- ja maksujärjestelmä Oy (LMJ) is an IT service and procurement company jointly owned by a group of municipalities that provides ticketing and transportation system services to competent public transportation authorities. LMJ maintains and manages the Waltti ticketing and payment system, and its operations cover more than 20 key urban regions around Finland.

Sofokus has been chosen as one of the suppliers in a blanket purchase agreement aiming to remodel and build the new national public transportation solutions of TVV lippu- ja maksujärjestelmä Oy (LMJ), which will operate under the brand name Waltti.

Sofokus will be involved in the planning process as well as the execution of the enterprise architecture and service design of the platform. The loading of Waltti cards will be done via the custom-built online shop which is directly connected to the back end of Waltti’s sales systems.

A self-service checkout which will be linked to the platform ecosystem and which will enable the purchasing of tickets and the topping up of existing travel cards is currently being developed with the other partners. The service ecosystem is also going to include a mobile application, whose back end system will be built collaboratively by Sofokus and other partners, such as RCPSW, Pinus and Poplatek.

From the viewpoint of a customer using public transportation services, it is important that services are offered on all distribution channels: the web, mobile devices and customer service counters. The fact that the customer is able to choose when and how to buy their tickets makes using public transportation easier. To make the most of the rapid progress and expertise in the field, Waltti will employ several smaller and agile operators instead of one big solution supplier in order to build a cost-effective and scalable entity.

“From our point of view, new digital services and new sales channel solutions are the keys to success. At the moment, we’re offering good quality services but we’re only just starting to develop them further. When everything will be running digitally in the future, we’ll be talking about pioneering work in this business sector, both nationally and internationally. We believe that collaborating with Sofokus will enable us to build a service package in the best possible way”, says LMJ Managing Director Jari Paasikivi.
