The Finnish Trotting and Breeding Association (Suomen Hippos ry) is the national central organisation for domestic trotting sport and horse breeding. Its most important tasks include maintaining a register and stud book of all horse breeds bred in Finland and managing and supervising trotting competitions in the country. Most of these registers are coordinated through the Heppa system.
The Hippos team was evaluating the Heppa system’s cost-effectiveness and its ability to genuinely serve users’ needs. We conducted an IT audit of the system from the perspectives of technical development needs and usability, and evaluated its cost-effectiveness in relation to systems used by similar organisations.
The Heppa system is used by approximately 150,000 users monthly, so its technical functionality, sustainability, and reliability are critical to Hippos.
Our experts in digital business, system architecture, and software development audited the system from a functional performance perspective, conducted a lifecycle assessment, and used interviews to evaluate the overall cost-effectiveness in relation to systems used by similar organisations.
Our UI and UX design experts also assessed the Heppa system in terms of user-friendliness. We evaluated how smoothly the Heppa system works and collected survey and interview data on the user experiences of different target groups.
Through evaluation work and survey interviews, we identified the system’s user experience strengths as well as areas for development that Hippos can focus on in future IT projects. Additionally, Hippos received valuable feedback and requests directly from users.
We produced comprehensive documents on the audit results for Hippos’s future development projects, as well as reports summarising the main findings for the organisation’s management team, funders, and other stakeholders.
A thorough IT audit and lifecycle evaluation of the Heppa system’s current state provides Hippos with a solid foundation for securing funding, communicating with authorities, and planning internal development projects within the organisation.

Assess the current state of your digital environment, make smarter decisions, and ensure that your systems support your business with an impartial expert IT audit.
