The Finnish National Gallery, Finland’s national museum of fine arts, maintains the national art museum collection and three of the country’s most renowned museums: the Ateneum Art Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, and the Sinebrychoff Art Museum. We developed a new digital ticket shop for these museums through a consortium of four service providers.
The Finnish National Gallery has always been a pioneer in museum digitalisation. As part of a broader project to develop electronic art services, the National Gallery wanted to offer customers the opportunity to easily purchase advance tickets for exhibitions and events online.
To ensure the ticket shop served the National Gallery’s needs and existing technology as effectively as possible, it was decided to implement it through multiple service providers. We formed a consortium with our partners Liveto, Passi & Ripatti, and Costa Commerce. This type of alliance is particularly beneficial in large-scale development projects, as it provides the client with access to the most qualified experts across different project areas as well as more skilled hands on deck.
At the project’s outset, professionals from Passi & Ripatti and Costa Commerce helped define and design the purchasing journeys museum visitors would take. The Liveto team handled project management and the installation and customisation of ticket sales modules from their event platform on the National Gallery’s websites. At Sofokus, we were responsible for assembling the consortium and integrating the ticket shop with the National Gallery’s point-of-sale, accounting, and space reservation systems in collaboration with Liveto.
The new ticket shop was introduced in phases during autumn 2023, starting with admission tickets for art exhibitions. The goal is for customers to eventually be able to purchase tickets for all National Gallery events through the system.
Thanks to date-specific ticket sales, art lovers can now ensure they can visit the museum at their preferred time. On-site queues at ticket offices are also expected to shorten, improving the customer experience for traditional ticket buyers. The National Gallery, in turn, can better anticipate future visitor numbers and allocate service staff accordingly. Additionally, the new digital sales channel provides more comprehensive customer data, which the National Gallery can use to continue improving its services.
